Bhutan: Some Like It Hot

If you crave hot and spicy food, then you’re in for a real treat in ‘the land of the thunder dragon’, where almost every dish served consists of the chilli (which sell like hot cakes).

For the Bhutanese, Chillies are a main ingredient of their somewhat unusual diet, perhaps ingredient is not necessarily the best way to put this… they love this fiery fruit, so much so, that they use it as a vegetable, as the entire dish rather than simply using it as a seasoning.

Their national dish is the deliciously tempting ema-­datshi (chilli cheese curry) after all – it’s hot stuff that we want.
